Underground Heavy Duty Mechanic

THOAR Mining provides a wide variety of services in the support and operation of mining, ranging from project management, supervision, underground construction, maintenance, and mining equipment operation.

We have an immediate need for highly motivated, safety conscious Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanics (Underground) for a Potash project with our client at Vanscoy, SK (near Saskatoon, SK). This project is anticipated to run through until April/May 2025 for a duration until November 2025, with a possibility of extension or transition to other upcoming projects.

You will need to be available to work 12 hour days and nights on a 2/2 rotation.

Responsibilities:

• Communication and cohesive alignment with other departments in the mine;
• Servicing, maintenance, and repair of underground mechanical systems and underground equipment including Mining machines including Alpine AM50, Drumcutter, Flexiveyor, Low Pro Miner, Scoops, skid steer and associated equipment;
• Diagnose and troubleshoot breakdowns;
• Maintain and support equipment records and repair history;
• Provide data for cause and failure analysis;
• Take part in planning and scheduling within work systems.

Qualifications:

• Saskatchewan Heavy Duty Mechanic Certification, preferably a Red Seal Journeyperson;
• Valid GMSA - General Mine Safety Awareness training;
• Valid First Aid/ CPR certificates;
• Valid WHMIS and SCOT;
• Minimum 5 years underground work experience;
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
• Experience with underground equipment is considered mandatory;
• Possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record;
• Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to adapt to tight deadlines.

• Proof of full vaccination will be required;
• A pre-employment drug and alcohol test will be required.
