THOAR Mining provides a wide variety of services in the support and operation of mining, ranging from project management, supervision, underground construction, maintenance, and mining equipment operation. 

We have an immediate need for a highly motivated, safety conscious Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanics / Truck and Transport Mechanic at the Cigar Lake, SK uranium mine site. This position is on a 4 month temporary contract basis with the possibility of an extension or transition to other projects.

You will need to be available for a two week on, two week off rotation. This is a fly-in, fly-out position with camp accommodations and meals provided during your shift. You will be working 12 hour shifts.

As a Heavy Duty Mechanic, you will be responsible for the ongoing maintenance and repair of site-specific equipment to ensure the operation meets production deliverables. 

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain communication and cohesive alignment with other departments in the mine.
  • Service, maintain, and repair the mechanical systems and mining equipment.
  • Be able to troubleshoot malfunctions, diagnose equipment problems, and repair accordingly.
  • Follow directions precisely with the ability to carry out daily work instructions in a timely and efficient manner with limited supervision.
  • Perform individual tasks and work effectively as part of the team to ensure productivity and efficiency.
  • Find creative solutions and effective problem solving of issues that arise.
  • Maintain and support equipment records and repair history.
  • Provide data for cause and failure analysis.
  • Take part in planning and scheduling within the work system.
  • Work safely and collaboratively as part of a crew.

 Qualifications:

  • Saskatchewan Heavy Duty Mechanic Certification, preferably a Red Seal Journeyperson.
  • Fourth year apprentices may be considered, as well as Truck and Transport Mechanics, or Agricultural Equipment Technicians.
  • Must have a minimum of three years’ experience with mobile equipment maintenance.
  • Must have a minimum of three years’ experience with truck and transport maintenance.
  • Ability to utilize OEM diagnostic software, preferably Mack and Detroit Diesel.
  • Valid First Aid/ CPR certificates.
  • Valid WHMIS and SCOT.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and constructively within a team environment. Good verbal and written communication.
  • Computer experience required for recordkeeping and documentation.
  • Commitment to safe work practices and achieve and maintain an excellent safety record.
  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Client Requirements:

  • Proof of full vaccination will be required;
  • A pre-employment drug test will be required.
